How To Filter Units By Your POIs

Use the Filter Units toggle to restrict your plan to inventory near your points of interest, and fix an empty plan.

Written by Zachary Cuva

By default, points of interest are markers on your map. They show you where things are but do not change which inventory your campaign matches.

The Filter Units toggle changes that. With it on, your plan only includes units within your radius of at least one POI.

Turning It On

  1. Open the POIs step.

  2. Find Filter Units at the top of the panel, next to the radius control.

  3. Switch the toggle on.

Your matched inventory recalculates straight away. Watch Matched Units in the Campaign Overview panel to see the effect.

Two Ways To Use POIs

Filter Units

What your plan contains

Off

Every unit matching your dates, locations and formats. POIs are shown on the map for context only — useful when you want a full market view but still want to see where your stores are.

On

Only units within your radius of a POI. Everything else drops out of the plan.

If Your Plan Empties Out

A sharp drop in matched units after switching this on is normal, but an empty plan means your POIs and your inventory are not overlapping. In order of what to try:

  1. Widen the radius. The most common cause is a radius tighter than the real distance between your POIs and the nearest billboards.

  2. Check your markets. POIs in a market you have not added contribute nothing, because inventory is only matched inside your chosen locations.

  3. Loosen your formats. A narrow format selection combined with a tight radius can leave almost nothing eligible.

  4. Turn the toggle back off. For broad awareness campaigns, POI filtering may simply be the wrong tool.

*Note: The toggle is reversible at any time and nothing is lost by switching it. Your POIs and radius stay exactly as they were, so it is worth trying both ways and comparing the plans.
