How To Export Your Units

Export your campaign's units to a spreadsheet, and check which columns you are about to send.

Written by Zachary Cuva

A units export is the workhorse of the export menu — your campaign's inventory as a spreadsheet, for sharing, reviewing offline, or working into a client document.

Running An Export

  1. Open the campaign and click Export.

  2. Stay on the Units tab.

  3. Choose your options.

  4. Click Export.

The file is prepared in the background, so a large campaign does not hold up your browser.

Your Options

Option

What it does

Select Template

Uses a saved layout, so the file comes out in a consistent shape every time.

Use grid columns

Exports exactly the columns currently visible on your campaign grid, instead of a template's.

Filter By

Limits the export. Campaign Filters exports only the units matching the filters you currently have applied.

Check Your Columns Before You Send

This is the important part of this article.

Use grid columns means the export mirrors your grid. If your grid is set up for internal review — with supplier costs and gross margin visible — those columns go into the file.

Before exporting anything a client will see:

  1. Open your grid column settings.

  2. Turn off every supplier cost column and Gross Margin.

  3. Run the export.

  4. Open the file and look at it before it leaves your hands.

*Note: That last step takes seconds and is the only way to be certain. Using a client-facing template rather than Use grid columns avoids the risk entirely.

Exporting Part Of A Campaign

To export a subset rather than everything, filter your plan first and then choose Campaign Filters under Filter By.

Useful for sending one market to a client, or one media owner's units into a negotiation, without editing the file afterwards.

The Other Export Types

The export panel has more than units. Each is a tab alongside Units:

  • Media Plan — the presentable version, as a PDF or a PowerPoint deck. Export PPTX if there is any chance you will need to edit the deck.

  • Spend — how spend breaks down by month. The one finance usually wants.

  • Summary — the campaign at a glance, without unit-level detail.

  • POP — proof of performance, once the campaign has run.

A simple test for which to send: a client asking what are we buying? wants the media plan; a client asking what did we spend? wants Spend; anyone who will do their own analysis wants the units export.

Finding A Finished Export

Exports are generated in the background, and the export panel lists your most recent ones so you can download a file once it is ready.

If an export fails, running it again with a narrower filter usually works — very large exports are the ones that struggle.
