How To Save Custom Bounds

Turn a drawn shape into a permanent boundary on your campaign map, and know when to use bounds rather than tags.

Custom bounds turn a shape you have drawn into something permanent on the campaign map. Use them to mark out a trade area, a client's territory, or any boundary that matters to this campaign but is not a standard market.

Saving A Shape

  1. Draw the area you want on the campaign map.

  2. In the panel that opens, under Organize, click Save Custom Bounds.

The shape is stored on the campaign and stays on the map, rather than disappearing when you click away.

What They Are For

A saved boundary does two useful things:

  • Shades the area on the map, so anyone looking at the campaign can see the territory you are working to without it being explained.

  • Gives you a reference to work against when reviewing which units fall inside or outside it.

They are most valuable on campaigns where the geography is the point — a delivery radius, a catchment that does not match a market boundary, or an area a client has explicitly asked for.

Bounds Versus Tags

The two solve different problems, and it is worth being deliberate:

Use

When you want to

Custom bounds

Show an area visually on the map. It is about the geography, not the units.

Tags

Filter back to a specific set of units. It is about the units, not the area.

*Note: Saving bounds does not tag, favorite or otherwise change the units inside the shape. If you want to act on those units too, do that from the same panel before closing it.

Working With Several Areas

You can save more than one boundary on a campaign — one per market, or one per client territory. They appear together on the map, so it is worth keeping the number low enough that the map stays readable.
